Travel Insurance
Possibly one of the best examples of why you should use a SIIAP Member is when arranging Travel insurance. Here there are both additional benefits to be had AND potential savings to be made!
Many will be aware that Cancellation cover reimburses you if you lose your holiday deposit due to unforeseen circumstances such as illness, accident or possibly redundancy but your boss changing their mind at the last moment and not letting you go on holiday is rarely covered. But cancelled holidays due to Service commitments is an everyday occurrence which will be covered in the policies issued by SIIAP Members.
The additional benefits don't stop there either. What if, say, you are based in Germany or Cyprus and commence a holiday from the UK. If you are taken ill on holiday and need to be brought home your typical high street travel policy will arrange for you to be brought back to the UK only. Not particularly useful if you are based in Paderborn or Dhekalia! The SIIAP alternative will allow you to return to your country of origin, if so desired.
And if you are serving outside the UK, substantial savings can be made to the premium by virtue of Insurance Payment Tax. An annual world-wide policy for the family costing (say) £130 in the UK will be £20 cheaper to the Service family based overseas as the 17½% tax is not necessary. However, you try explaining this to your high street travel agent and you will get just as much success as you will in trying to change the pages on their website - nil!
Further savings can be made if you have already arranged Kit insurance. As stated before these policies cover your personal possessions world-wide twenty four/seven and this includes your clothes, jewellery, watches, cameras and other personal possessions (i.e. your baggage). You may therefore want to remove the Baggage section from your travel policy and your SIIAP Member Firm can do this for you usually saving you a further 20% of the premium.
